Reykjavik Music Mess 2012

Reykjavík Music Mess is back. The 2012 edition of the indie music festival will take place over the last weekend of May (24—27) at Kex Hostel and Faktorý Bar, two well-known venues among local concertgoers. Kex Hostel, which also hosted the festival’s off-venue gigs last year, will be the setting for all afternoon performances; Faktorý Bar will handle the night shows. Update: an additional show was added with Nasa as venue. Sponsoring the event is Kimi Records in collaboration with Kex Hostel and Reyka Vodka.

The last Reykjavík Music Mess was epic and we enjoyed being there so much that it actually was one of the best things of our 2011, musically speaking. For its second year of activity, the festival’s organizers opted for a more intimate, informal vibe; the venues are also best suited for a smaller scale audience.

Artists involved in the upcoming Mess are from the UK, Denmark, Finland and, of course, Iceland. This is the full lineup:

  • Benni Hemm Hemm
  • Cheek Mountain Thief (UK/IS)
  • Dikta
  • Jarse (FI)
  • Laura J. Martin (UK)
  • Legend
  • Man Made (UK)
  • Markús + guests
  • Monterey
  • Morðingjarnir
  • My Bubba & Mi (DK)
  • Reykjavík!
  • Snorri Helgason
  • The Dandelion Seeds
  • Tilbury
  • Úlfur
  • Útidúr

Our personal fave this year is Jarse, whom we had occasion to appreciate in a special Fonal Records live event also in collaboration with Kimi Records last June. If you have a chance, go see him on the 25th at Faktorý.

A detailed schedule for Reykjavík Music Mess 2012 is available here. The festival has also a blog up and running: you should check it if you want to know more about the festival and its live acts. For live updates, follow Reykjavík Music Mess on Facebook or Twitter. Passes for the whole weekend are on sale on midi.is; individual tickets for just one day will be handed at the venues’ door.
